JetGeek (jetgeek.blogspot.com) is a travel and technology blog operated by an individual publisher based in Sri Lanka, dedicated to helping modern travelers and digital nomads stay informed and travel smarter. JetGeek is also affiliated with Travaroots, an inbound tourism business in Sri Lanka.

This Privacy Policy explains how JetGeek collects, uses, stores, and protects information when you visit this site. By using JetGeek, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

JetGeek collects two categories of information:

Information you provide directly: If you contact us via email or submit a comment through Blogger's comment system, we receive the information you voluntarily share, such as your name and email address. We use this only to respond to your inquiry.

Information collected automatically: When you visit JetGeek, certain data is collected automatically by the platforms and services we use. This includes:

  • Your IP address and approximate geographic location
  • Browser type, device type, and operating system
  • Pages visited, time spent on pages, and referring URLs
  • Clicks on affiliate and outbound links
  • Date and time of your visit

This data is collected through Google's Blogger platform and Google Analytics, and is governed in part by Google's own Privacy Policy (see Section 05).

Google services (Blogger, Analytics & AdSense)

JetGeek is hosted on Google's Blogger platform. Google collects and processes certain data independently as part of hosting this site. Their data practices are governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

Google Analytics: JetGeek uses Google Analytics to collect anonymized data about site traffic and reader behavior. Google Analytics uses cookies and may transmit data to Google servers in the United States. Google Analytics data is used in aggregate only and does not personally identify individual visitors. You may opt out via the Google Analytics Opt-Out Add-on.

Google AdSense: JetGeek may display ads served by Google AdSense. Google uses cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings.

Blogger comments: If you leave a comment on JetGeek using the Blogger comment system, your comment and any associated profile data (if you are signed into a Google account) are processed by Google. Please review Google's Privacy Policy for details.

Affiliate links and third-party retailers

JetGeek links to trusted third-party retailers so that travelers can conveniently purchase recommended products. When you click an affiliate link and visit a retailer's website, that retailer's own privacy policy and data practices apply. JetGeek has no access to or control over any data collected by third-party retailers after you leave this site.

Affiliate networks we participate in may use cookies and tracking pixels to attribute purchases made after clicking our links. These cookies are typically session-based or limited in duration. Please review the privacy policies of any retailer you visit through JetGeek links.

JetGeek regularly links to external websites including news sources, government travel advisories, tourism boards, and technology publications. These external sites are not operated by JetGeek and have their own privacy policies. We have no responsibility for the content or privacy practices of any third-party site. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any website you navigate to from JetGeek.

Data retention and security

JetGeek does not maintain its own database of reader personal data. Any data collected automatically through Google Analytics and Blogger is retained according to Google's data retention settings, which can be reviewed in Google's Privacy Policy.

Emails sent to us directly are retained only as long as necessary to resolve your inquiry and are not shared with third parties. We take reasonable precautions to protect any information communicated to us, but no method of internet transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children's privacy (COPPA)

JetGeek is intended for a general adult audience. This site does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13. If you believe that a child under 13 has provided personal information to us, please contact us immediately at dilan@travaroots.com and we will take steps to delete such information promptly, in accordance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), 15 U.S.C. § 6501 et seq.

Your rights under GDPR (EU & UK readers)

If you are located in the European Union or the United Kingdom, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) grants you specific rights regarding your personal data.

You have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Rectification — request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Erasure — request deletion of your personal data (the "right to be forgotten")
  • Restriction — request that we limit processing of your data in certain circumstances
  • Portability — request your data in a portable, machine-readable format
  • Object — object to processing based on legitimate interests or direct marketing
  • Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time

Because much of the data collected on JetGeek is processed directly by Google, many of these requests should also be directed to Google via their Privacy Policy and account settings. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.

Your rights under CCPA (California residents)

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) provides you with the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • Right to know — the categories and specific pieces of personal information collected about you
  • Right to delete — request deletion of personal information we have collected, subject to certain exceptions
  • Right to opt out — opt out of the sale of your personal information. JetGeek does not sell personal information.
  • Right to non-discrimination — we will not discriminate against you for exercising your CCPA rights
